Ek-Balam - Ek-Balam Productores del Jaguar S.C. DE R. L. de C.V. (Ek-Balam) was formed in 2019 with 399 members. The vast majority of producers have indigenous roots and continue to speak a native language. Nearly one third of these growers are women who depend on income from coffee to support their families. They cultivate coffee on farms that average just a few acres in size, small enough for each producer to process their own coffee with their own micro-mill. Ek-Balam provides crucial support to small producers. In particular, the association has helped producers gain access to credit and certifications. Investments for basic infrastructure needs, like road improvements, establishing local warehouses, and operating a dry-mill facility are all coordinated through Ek-Balam, which ensures traceability and quality control throughout the post-harvest process. Their collective efforts have established higher prices and more producer income to support best agricultural practices and improve livelihoods.

Good stuff!

My regular bean. Whole bean coffees seem to be disappearing from the market. Hopefully Cafe Altura won’t follow the trend.

I can buy Starbucks beans at Costco but they don’t hold a candle to the wonderful flavors in Cafe Altura is dark roast coffee.
I also enjoy Cafe Altura‘s French roast coffee beans. One of my favorite things to do is to mix the two together. Their wonderful brewed hot and wonderful cold brewed.

Second only to the French Roast style!

My favorite from Cafe Altura is anything that is French Roast. This Dark Roast is just as smooth and a bit more mellow in flavor. I am focused on beans from Central and South America and this Dark Roast will be in my selection from now on.

Tasty!

"We enjoy coffee maybe a little more than most. Okay, fine, we really love our coffee! I'm happy to pay a little extra if it means more money for the farmer. Were always happy to serve a guest coffee because its always met with compliments. I play it off like its my amazing coffee making skills but the coffee is really just that good. Its not burnt at all and the beans were evenly roasted."
